Creative Prompt: Leading & Following



Let's explore which limbs lead and which limbs follow in our movement on the ground and in the air.

You can use the specially curated playlist below for this session (or other freestyle sessions).


Start on the floor: 

- Walk across the room. Take note of how your arms swing or your legs move.

- Walk back across the room, this time lead with your hips. 

- Walk again, this time lead with your elbows. Then try leading with your head.

How did this change your walking? What movements did you enjoy or not enjoy in the process?

 

Now take this prompt to the air with a short simple sequence (think 3 things max):

- Run the sequence. Filming can help for reflection and comparison.

- Run the sequence again but lead the movements in your sequence (where possible) from your hips.

- Repeat the sequence and lead with your elbows, then try leading with other body parts. 

How did this change your movements? What felt good? What felt not so good? 

 

Not all movements will work in this exercise for your aerial practice and that's okay! We learn so much through experimentation.
